The Myth of Quick Weight Loss Without Diet and Exercise

Marketers Love Getting Over on People with Rapid Weight Loss and Quick Weight Loss Schemes

In the Supermarket Last Night the Magazine Cover Blared “How the Stars Lose Weight Fast”

The theme of this site and of my work is that calories count.

Also, we’re all the same — we all work the same way. In other words, human physiology dictates our function or there’d be no textbook of physiology.

The fastest way to lose weight is to eat nothing.

In the early 1900’s people flocked to Madison Square Garden to watch professional fasters sit on the main floor and eat nothing for up to 40 days. That was quick weight loss.

Fasting has been practiced for centuries in connection with religious ceremonies. Today, fasting has also become a method of protest such as against the war in Irag.

You can’t possibly lose weight any faster than by not eating or drinking.

If you want quick weight loss then do that. And that advice is absolutely FREE.

All religions have certain occasions where fasting is part of the religious practice.

One of the early pioneers in health advocacy through diet, exercise, and clear-headed thoughts was Bernarr McFadden:

  • McFadden was a successful businessman and made considerable profit from health promotion
  • McFadden promoted different fasting styles including no foods or drinks, juice fasting, and the use of raw milk fasting
  • although fasting means the complete abstinence of food or drink, the word has been added to other styles of reduced food consumption such as juice fasting

Another Popular Quick Weight Loss Method is Juice Fasting

People have been told and believe that juicing is both healthy and slimming.

Followers of Bernarr McFadden, such as Jack LaLanne, even have infomercials today extolling the virtues of juicing.

Can we argue with Jack’s dietary practices since the guy’s 99 years old? Maybe so, since he exercises three hours each day.

Juice contains many carbohydrates, particularly fruit juice, and I’m teaching you here about the hazards of carbohydrates.

Watch out for too much juice.

The Development of the Medical Quick Weight Loss Method

In the early 1970’s, researchers promoted a new method of quick weight loss called the Protein Sparing Modified Fast (PSMF).

It had been observed that fasters, eating nothing, and juice fasters as well, lost a lot of their lean body mass (LBM). LBM is organ mass and muscle mass.

Their solution was to feed a high-protein diet of between 400-800 calories per day. They found that this program spared the loss of LBM.

These studies were the forerunners to many modern-day weight loss companies such as Medifast and others.

Of course, all these variations don’t change anything: you can only lose weight at a rate depending on the level of calorie imbalance.

OK, the PSMF is a pretty good way to lose weight faster, but not as fast as eating nothing. It reduces hunger too. That’s your second FREEBIE. But, this proves that calorie reduction dictates the rate of weight loss — nothing else.

You can’t change your metabolism either in any significant way. Sure, ephedra, green tea, and compounds such as caffeine can increase metabolism by a couple of percent.

Assuming a daily calorie burn of about 2,500 cals per day (varies with body size and activity level), these substances might lead to burning, say, 60 more calories per day.

“Not bad,” you say. And that might be true over the course of one year, but will do nothing to create a quick weight loss.

What Do We Lose When We Starve Ourselves?

Days of Semi-Starvation:                 1-3         4-6        7-12

Avg. Weight Loss/Day (pounds): 1.61       1.10       .81

Fat % loss:                                               27          40          53

LBM % loss:                                              9            10          13

Water % loss:                                         70           50          34

One can easily see by inspecting the table that during the first 12 days of semi-starvation that water losses represent the largest portion of the weight that’s lost.

This is the basis of all the claims made by the quick weight loss charlatans.

First 3 day’s loss: 70% water. By about 22-24 days, water loss stops and so does weight loss unless you know how to do it correctly.

Can You Do It?

I’ve now explained to you the fastest ways to lose weight. You can try it. How well do you think you’ll do eating nothing, or juicing, or eating meat to the tune of just 500 calories per day?

It won’t be easy. When it’s all over, you’ll most likely regain all that you lost, and more. This response is called Post-Starvation Obesity.

You see, your body wants to stay the weight it is. After starvation and weight loss, the body becomes hyperphagic, or in less scientific terms, it enters a state of ravenous over-eating. You eat and eat and eat. Have you ever experienced this before?

And guess what, you can’t control this because it’s an extraordinarily powerful Biological drive. You can’t whip it with Willpower.

The other point is that quick weight loss methods teach you nothing about weight loss and that’s the point of my work: I’m going to teach you HOW to do it.

This is what I teach in my writing and in my programs: HOW to lose weight the right way, the permanent way. The best book of mine to teach all you need to know about weight loss, for value and facts, is Ultimate Diet Secrets lite.
